Real Madrid eased beyond Manchester City in their playoff as they secured an impressive 6-3 win over their Premier League opponents over two legs.

Atletico Madrid beat Athletic Bilbao in their last league game as they extended their unbeaten run to 10 matches.

Four of the last 10 meetings between the sides have ended in draws, with Real winning three and Atletico winning three.

Real Madrid Form

Real Madrid always seem to save their best for the Champions League, with their win over Manchester City in the playoffs an impressive result.

Of course, it is worth noting that City have been out-of-sorts this season, but they are still a side that can spring into life at any moment. Since their 3-1 home win over City, Real have beaten Girona and Real Sociedad, but they arrive for this match on the back of a shock 2-1 loss to Real Betis at the weekend.

Their arch-rivals will be looking for any signs of weakness, and the home team's defeat at the weekend highlighted the potential cracks in this Real side. While their attacking lineup looks in great touch and will likely score, I do not believe they have enough to see off their stubborn arch-rivals.

Atletico Madrid Form

Atletico Madrid arrive for the first-leg of their Champions League Round of 16 clash knowing that they have a massive chance to eliminate their arch-rivals early in the competition.

Their 10-game unbeaten run across all competitions has seen them draw with Real (1-1) and Barcelona (4-4), with Atletico able to battle with the best. Atleti have made a habit out of being tough to beat for years, and they will bring this into their first-leg clash, with all of the pressure on their big spending neighbours.

While I do not predict that Atleti will keep a clean sheet in the face of Real's attacking gems, I back them to meet fire with fire as they hit the back of the net themselves. A draw would be an excellent result heading into the second-leg, and I back the travelling side to frustrate their hosts.
